Members of the Friend's of Buck's Rock Board

Jessica Halem, President

Jessica Halem remembers the ad in the back of the New York Times for "A Summer to Discover." A few months later she arrived at Buck's Rock -- it was the Summer of 1985 and she pretty much didn't stop until the Summer of 1996. She enjoyed everything at Buck's Rock then settled into her family at the Metalsmithing/Jewelry Shop where she went from camper to counselor. She also spent a Summer as a House Counselor for Girl's House Up where she ran an historic fire drill in record time. Her metalsmithing was on display at the Smithsonian when she was in high school but most importantly -- her friends are still among her best from those summers. When she isn't waxing on about bug juice, being a CIT or days off, she is a stand-up comic who lives in Brooklyn and travels the country performing at colleges and clubs. She has also been managing non-profits, fundraising campaigns, political advocacy and public relations since graduating from Sarah Lawrence in 1994.

Stephanie Segal Hartman, Managing Director

Stephanie Segal Hartman joined Friends of Buck’s Rock at its inception. Having spent eight summers at Buck's Rock camp as a camper, CIT, JC and counselor, Stephanie welcomed the opportunity to provide an empowering experience to talented young people. Coupling her prior work experience at the American Diabetes Association and Bailey House with other volunteer work at Y.E.S. in Atlanta, as a PTO president, trustee on her local Library Board and chair of River Edge Municipal Alliance Against Drugs, Stephanie has brought unique knowledge of non-profit work to her tenure on the Board. In addition to serving as the Managing Director for Friends of Buck’s Rock, Stephanie is a part-time preschool teacher at the YJCC in Bergen County.
